How does combining investment management with tax planning in one firm benefit high-net-worth clients compared to working with separate advisors?
I built SYKON Capital around a simple idea: investment decisions and tax decisions are often stronger when they are looked at together. Here is what that can look like in practice.
Having a financial advisor manage investments and a separate CPA handle taxes can create a coordination challenge. Both professionals may be doing good work in isolation, but each may be working with incomplete information about the other’s decisions.
When investment management and tax planning are integrated, the relevant conversations may happen earlier. Before we harvest losses, we can review the broader tax picture. Before we recommend a distribution strategy, we can look at the bracket. Before a client takes Social Security or converts a retirement account, we can model how that decision may affect the return, including potential Medicare surcharges (IRMAA) and the taxation of Social Security benefits.
We built SYKON Capital around this integrated model intentionally. As a CMT® (Chartered Market Technician) certificate holder, I bring a technical and risk-aware lens to investment decisions. As an EA and CFP® professional, I can connect those investment decisions more directly to the tax return. That combination may be valuable for clients who want investment and tax decisions evaluated together.
In practice, this means we try to reduce avoidable surprises at filing time. Clients can make more proactive decisions throughout the year when both the investment and tax implications of a move are being reviewed together. For high-income earners facing complexity across equity compensation, retirement accounts, real estate, and business interests, that coordination can be helpful.
